If you’re coming with a group of friends for a kitesurfing lesson or planning to kitesurf with your whole family, we recommend our group lessons – always fun and very educational! In a group lesson, you’ll learn to kitesurf in exactly the same way as in a private or semi-private lesson. Your learning progress stays the same, so group lessons aren’t necessarily cheaper than private or semi-private ones – at least not when you compare how far you’ve come. If you look purely at time, yes. But in terms of progress, it’s about the same.

That’s why we recommend choosing the type of kitesurf lesson that suits you best – not just based on price.
If you’re coming with a group, definitely book a group lesson!
If you’re coming alone or with just one other person, it’s better to book a private or semi-private lesson package.

Group lessons can only be booked with a minimum of 3 participants. The maximum group size is 4 students per instructor.

Frequently Asked Questions about a Group Windsurfing Lesson in Workum

We warmly welcome you to Soalsurf!
Please arrive 15 minutes before your lesson starts and check in with one of our staff members.
They will mark you as present and introduce you to the instructor who will give you an awesome day on the water!

You can store your clothes and belongings in a locker — please bring a padlock.
The wetsuits, harnesses, and impact vests are replaced each season and cleaned regularly.
You’re welcome to bring your own surf gear if you have it.
Once you’re dressed in your wetsuit, harness, impact vest, and helmet, you’re ready to start your kitesurfing lesson.

The lesson begins with the first steps of the IKO method.
You’ll start with a spot check and then set up the kite on the beach.
Once that’s done, you’ll learn how to launch the kite and head into the water with your instructor.

If the wind is strong enough, we’ll head onto the water with a full-size windsurf rig.
In lighter wind conditions, we use larger beginner-friendly sails and stable boards so you can still learn effectively on the water.
Our equipment is carefully selected to match your level and the wind conditions, making sure your first windsurfing experience is safe, fun, and rewarding.

Once on the water, you’ll practice controlling the sail, finding your balance, and learning how to steer.
With each step, you’ll gain more confidence and control.
You’ll learn:

  • how to hold and handle the sail

  • how to find your balance on the board

  • how to steer and turn (tacking and jibing)

  • how to get back up after falling into the water

After mastering the basics, we’ll move on to more advanced exercises like sailing upwind, using the harness, or practicing controlled turns.
Depending on your progress, you’ll start feeling the flow — cruising across the water with confidence.
Our instructors adapt the exercises to your pace, so every session is fun and challenging.

At the end of your lesson, you’ll debrief with your instructor.
You’ll receive feedback on what went well and what to focus on next time.
If desired, we can advise you on your next steps in windsurfing and help you find the right gear.
You’re always welcome to continue your windsurfing journey with us — whether you want to rent equipment, take another lesson, or just enjoy the spot!

Soal Surf is the most fun surf school in Friesland!
We are the only surf school with a permanent location on the beautiful beach of Workum.
We offer a wide range of kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingsurfing, wingfoiling, and stand-up paddling equipment, which we use in our lessons and also rent out.

There are several other mobile surf schools on the beach, such as Sky-high kitesurf school, Antixsports, and Kite Mobile.
We are also an IKO-certified kitesurf school and provide instructor training both for our own school and for other schools around the world.

We offer instructor training for both our own kitesurf school and external schools.
We do this through IKO training programs.
At Soal Surf, we have IKO examiners and trainers who train a variety of surfers to become certified kitesurf instructors.
Our instructors are highly qualified and have the experience and knowledge to coach you in the best way possible!

In the beginning, you’ll share one kite set. Once you’ve built enough experience during the lessons, you’ll start riding with multiple kites alongside others.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Advanced Private Kite Lesson Friesland

In most cases, you can start kitesurfing from the age of 12, depending on your weight and ability to concentrate.
Even if you’re 101 years old and mentally fit enough, you’re still very welcome to come and kitesurf with us at Soal Surf Workum.

If you’re physically and mentally healthy, kitesurfing is easy to learn for anyone.
Your health is our top priority – do you have a medical condition or something we should be aware of? Just give us a call: +31 6 34 63 14 55

Kitesurf lessons almost always go ahead – unless there are strong winds of force 7 (very heavy wind) or complete calm (no wind).
If conditions aren’t suitable, you can easily reschedule your lesson at a time that suits you.

We offer value packages. If you book a multi-lesson package and finish earlier than the average (10–15 hours), we don’t offer a refund, but we’ll convert the remainder into store credit.
If you’re going on holiday or have lessons left, no problem – they stay valid for 12 months!
So you can simply book again when the wind is right and it fits your schedule.

Yes, absolutely! You choose your start date, and after that, you can pick the follow-up dates for your remaining lessons too. 😊

IKO Certificaat en Opleiding

We are an IKO-certified kitesurf school and will provide you with an IKO certificate upon completing your course.
Yes, that means from that moment on, you can hit the water independently, responsibly, and safely—with enough experience.
With your IKO certificate, you can rent gear all over the world. Super convenient when traveling or kitesurfing along the Dutch coast.

Join the instructor training at Soal Surf. Throughout the year, you can take the official IKO instructor course with us!
